We are currently wrapping up the 2023-2024 school year at Logansport Junior High School. Many people think that teachers sit around the pool during the summer taking sips from glasses with little umbrella in them. I don't know any teachers that actually spend their summer like that! My summer is loaded with multiple teaching, learning, and planning opportunities that fill my days during the summer. After Memorial Day, our LJHS Science Department will spend a couple of days working on curriculum mapping with the NEW Textbooks for the 2024-2025 School Year. We are looking forward to developing an engaging plan of inquiry-based lessons with some STEM activities to develop the 21st century skills that our Junior High School students will need to become productive members of our future workforce.

This summer will also be spent developing our new Jr. P-TECH program. I am very excited to be involved with a dedicated group of educators willing to give up part of their summer to create a program that will guide students to become lifelong learners through project-based learning. We will spend at least 10 days this summer designing the program and developing the project outlines, badge tasks, organizing the online platform, and numerous other elements needed to make the program successful.

There will also be professional development opportunities to engage in this summer. While I am continuing to work on earning a Masters in Curriculum and Instruction through Purdue University, I am also an instructor for a couple of professional development workshops. You can join me to learn more about Schoology and how to make Schoology work for you in the classroom. I am also looking forward to sharing with other educators how they can integrate STEM lessons in their classroom.

Although my summer will be pretty busy I am also looking forward to spending time with my family especially my grandson. The little guy and I will get to spend every Monday and Tuesday together visiting the golf course and doing different tasks around the house.
